Timofti to the media: I didn't show you any wound or blood and I bear no grudge against somebody
President Nicolae Timofti appealed to the media representatives and creation people. He says that the degree of democratization of a society is estimated based on how free in expression, independent, impartial and objective the media representatives are.
In his appeal, Timofti mentions that the elite of a society is edified and shaped, basically, by people of culture and art, opinion makers, and where they are not heard and seen, the community’s spirit dies as an offshoot without light.
"Namely you have the task to “clean” the falsehoods and non-values – under the historical, cultural, literary and creative aspects. Moreover! At any time when things might get back to subjects of identity, language, history, how small or how big the evil triggered by the political power may be will depend on the power of your intelligence and knowledge. I hope that you will protect the springs of our culture, the Romanian language, our historical roots from now on as well. All together – ordinary citizens, culture people, newspapermen, those who made up the intellectual nucleus of a society – must cultivate the national spirit, just as peasants cultivate the land," mentions the President.
The Head of State added that the degree of democratization of a society is estimated based on how free in expression, independent, impartial and objective the media representatives are.
"The role and responsibility of journalists is huge in a society that wants to be democratic. There are two phenomena, the presence of absence of which can reserve an honorary place to a newspaper person in the society or, on the contrary, marginalizes him/her to the pillar of infamy and disdain: appeal to individual conscience, ethics and morality,” pointed out Nicolae Timofti.
President hints that he often was "hurt" by what the media said or wrote, but due to respect did not show this.
"A word written, said can trigger a bigger hemorrhage than the sharpest edge. It is hard for me to say you how many times I was feeling this edge; yet, out of respect for your profession, in the spirit of the democratic values, I didn’t show you either the wound or the blood and I bear no grudge against somebody,” added Timofti.
In the end the Head of State concludes that a journalist does not write for the present or for tomorrow. He/she makes history, but what history one can make out of media lynching, out of lie and manipulation?!
"We all need honesty and correctness. And if journalists fit these parameters of morality, a society only benefits from this. I wish you much inspiration, success in your work, which is to yield only non-compromised fruit. May you have patience, wisdom and information, in order to present the truth and the beautiful, as well as to stigmatize the evil from our society,” concludes the fourth president of the Republic of Moldova.
