The Parliament Speaker, Andrian Candu, reacts to the statement of the President, Igor Dodon, about its intention to cancel the agreement on opening a NATO Liaison Office in Chisinau. According to the speaker, there is no concern that neutrality could be lost or that in Moldova could come foreign military forces.

In a Facebook posting, Candu writes that the NATO office opened in Chisinau is an office that "enables successful communication of this international structure with our military institutions".

"The neutrality of Moldova is affirmed in the Constitution and there is no concern that the neutrality could be lost or that in Moldova could come foreign military forces (except those who are already deployed in Transnistria). In this regard, the President's concerns are unfounded.

The NATO Office is an office opened in Chisinau that ensure a good communication of this international structure our military with institutions. So it's a technical office, for information and communication, nothing more. We must remember that the foundations of cooperation relations with NATO structures were laid since the communist period. Our soldiers began to be involved in peacekeeping missions and the Moldovan army had only benefits from this cooperation; as well as national security," wrote the speaker.

We remind you that in an interview given to the Russian agency Russia Today, Igor Dodon said he would do "everything possible to cancel this decision."

We specify that the Prime Minister of Moldova, Pavel Filip, and the Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg signed in Brussels in November 2016 an agreement to open a NATO liaison office in Chisinau.

As announced Filip the NATO Liaison Office in Chisinau will start work in March.

The Moldovan government hopes that by opening this Office, a constructive cooperation with NATO will start, in order to modernize the Moldovan army.
