Vitalie Vovc // About fences and the non-sense parade
In fact, what did you actually expect? Did you really wish a peaceful, civilised holiday, where the police would be dressed in festive uniforms, where todays “crooks” would merge with the rest of the people? Come on… Be serious...

From the start, I feel obligated to tell you that I am not a fan of this kind of events. I do have a repulsion towards parades, especially military ones. But in a conversation that I led five years ago, someone told me that for the army and other parties that are participating in this defile, it is an opportunity to get out of the shadows, to feel proud about what they are doing. These were the exact words told by the officer I know, whom I met in PMAN five years ago, gaudy as a peacockin a brand new uniform. It happened in the middle of the rehearsal. He told me that finallythey would have the opportunity to be seen by the people, to be known that they exist, that they received, with the occasion of this defile, uniforms and got out of numbness. In few words, the man was really satisfied, inspired and his eyes were sparkling even brighter than the epaulets on his uniform. Since that day, I gave a break. After all, if such an event makes at least someone happy, it has the right to exist, especially because we really need army, police, firefighters, etc. etc.
However, let us get back to what happened on August 27th, in Chisinau. First, let us talk about that improvised VAP scene (“A” – from Arrogant, not “I” – from important): you need to know that our government is not original. Everywhere they install “official stands”. For example, this is how the one from France looked like.
The famous crowd baths à la Gorby, with his well-known statement “Where closer?” are historic and will remain exceptionally for years ahead… This tells a lot about the world we live in, but I am repeating, this is not something that defines us.
Furthermore, things get complicated: everybody has written news about fences, police that was locked and loaded, security cordons and… tear gases. First of all tear gases, but also pictures with children and elders, watching at the event through a fence.
Isn’t it disappointing? Isn’t it outrageous?
However, if we recall everything that has happened in the last months, the appeals of the supporters of the Platform DA and of Usatai before August 27, how could it be differently? What reaction could you expect from the police that hardly resisted and settled down the assault of the Parliament, when one of them was almost strangled a couple of months ago? How many weeks lasted that hysteria on social media with the “I am not afraid” campaign? Did you watch the video of Usatai? Who spiced up the “atmosphere” before the parade? Are not the same ones who publish the same images with little children and frail old ladies behind the fence? Moreover, why not to publish such images? How not to be disturbed? I bet these pictures provoked more tears than the tear gases used by police. What a happy day for the media, including the international one! You make tabula rasa of everything that happened before this day, you upload a couple of pictures, and this is it! You have a tearful story, good enough to public in Euronews.
In France, the fences look like this. Although, back there fighting is elsewhere and nobody calls to “soak in the toilet” the government on the Independence Day.
Is this not acceptable? Of course it is. Did the police reacted excessively? Probably, but I am not sure at all. You should consider the fact that the policeman from the cordon is also a human and I do not think that he would like to be strangulated as his colleague a couple of months ago? Do they seem like peaceful spectators?
I did not think that I would agree with Dodon, but in this case, I must do that… Or maybe this was the purpose?
I assure you, my dears, the media space from the Republic of Moldova is a continuous circus, including what you can read on the social media. Absurdistan. I am afraid that in the near future, to talk with someone senile, I would have to knock at the doors of a psychiatric facility…
In the end, I would like to tell you about the most beautiful and elegant form of protest: that no one would come! Just imagine: the VAP in their pen, armed police, important guests, parade going on, but in the square – NOBODY.
