OSCE and MAE from Bucharest have discussed the problem of the Transnistrian conflict
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lazar Comanescu, received the Ambassador Cord Meier-Klodt, the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office for the Transnistrian settlement process.
The Minister Lazar Comanescu welcomed the efforts of the Chairperson-in-Office of the German OSCE, and personally, of the Ambassador Cord Meier-Klodt, which has materialized with the resumption after two years of dialogue in the "5 + 2" format, the only framework established to regulate peaceful, political and negotiated of the Transnistrian case. The Romanian official reiterated need to continue the engagement of all sides involved in the negotiation process and reiterated his support for the efforts of the German Presidency in this sense. In this context, it was discussed the prospects for finding a comprehensive, fair and lasting of the conflict, respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova and to ensure, in accordance with commitments to the OSCE, a special status for Transnistria.
At the same time, the Romanian side highlighted the importance of political will and a balanced approach that is able to facilitate furthering the dialogue on file.
The meeting with the Ambassador Cord Meier-Klodt is circumscribed to a regular dialogue with relevant interlocutors of the Romanian side for the Transnistrian settlement process.
The "5 + 2" format brings together at the negotiating table the representatives of Ukraine, Russia, OSCE, Moldova and the Transnistrian administration, as well as the EU and US. The negotiation process was resumed in 2016, by round held in Berlin, in June 2 to 3, 2016. Previous formal meeting of the "5 + 2" format took place in Vienna on June 5 to 6, 2014.
