Republican Donald Trump is the new president of the United States, after obtaining the support of 10 voters in Wisconsin, according to the Washington Post and Associated Press. Democrat Hillary Clinton called her Republican rival on Wednesday morning, acknowledging her defeat in the presidential election and congratulated him on this victory in the race for the White House, CNN reports.

His Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton, has only 218 electors.

Alaska was the last state to vote in presidential elections and the polling stations were closed at 8 PM Chisinau time.

Against all odds, polls, and projections, Donald Trump claimed victory in the presidential election Tuesday, delivering a speech at the Hilton Hotel in New York City on Tuesday to a cheering crowd of supporters.

After an acrimonious campaign, Trump praised Clinton for working "very long and very hard over a long period of time, and we owe her a major debt of gratitude for her service to our country."

Trump also called upon Republicans and Democrats to unite.

"I say it is time for us to come together as one united people," he said. "It’s time."

He added: "I pledge to every citizen of our land that I will be president for all Americans, and this is so important to me."

He said it was not a campaign but a movement that had won him the White House, comprised of "all people of different backgrounds and beliefs."

He said victory had been "tough". "This political stuff is nasty and it's tough," he said, while thanking his family.
