The Social-Democrats' proposition for Prime Minister is Sevil Shhaideh, Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Liviu Dragnea announced on Wednesday.

The announcement was made by the Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Liviu Dragnea after consultations with President Klaus Iohannis.

Dragnea said that "for the time being" he cannot claim the office of PM himself.

"An unjust conviction and a deeply unconstitutional law have prevented me, for the time being, from claiming this office myself," Dragnea said after the consultations at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace. 

According to Liviu Dragnea, Sevil Shhaideh is recommended for the PM office by "her work capacity, administration knowledge, development vision, a very good training in the absorption of European funds."

"Sevil has a too high authority, sometimes too high," the PSD leader said.

Moreover, he underscored that he will never have an attitude of running or coordinating something from the shadow, but everything that he will do will be publicly assumed.

In case that Sevil Shhaideh is designated as Prime Minister, she will be the first woman PM in Romanian history.

Sevil Shhaideh is 52 years old. She graduate the Economic Planning and Cybernetics Faculty of the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies.

Shhaideh served as Secretary of State with the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Administration from 2012, and following Liviu Dragnea's resignation, she succeeded him in the office of Minister of Regional Development and Public Administration. She filled this position between May 20, 2015 — November 4, 2016.
