An earthquake registering a 4-degree magnitude on the Richter scale occurred on Thursday morning at 6:23 in Vrancea County, according to the data released on the website of the National Institute of Earth Physics Research and Development (INFP).

The earthquake took place at a 140.2-km depth, and the closest places to the epicentre were Jitia — 16 km and Focsani — 52 km, while the distance to Bucharest was 137 km.

The most significant earthquakes last year took place on 24 September at 2:11 in Vrancea area, measuring 5.3 degrees on the Richter scale, and 28 December, also in Vrancea, with a similar magnitude, 5.3 degrees, but at 1:20.

Since the beginning of the year, in Romania there were 4 earthquakes registering magnitudes between 2.2 and 4 degrees on the Richter scale.
