EXCLUSIVE // Traian Băsescu and his wife will lay the oath for Moldovan citizenship on Thursday
The former President of Romania, Traian Băsescu, and his wife Maria, will lay the oath to obtain Moldovan citizenship. The ceremony will take place on Thursday at 16:00 in the premises of Moldovan Embassy in Bucharest. The information was confirmed for Deschide.MD by His Excellency, the Ambassador, Mihai Gribincea.
"Mr. Băsescu is "constrained" by two periods: the first is related to the Moldovan legislation which states that if within six months, a person is not laying a vow, she loses the right to obtain citizenship, and the second term is related to the presidential elections in which he said that he intends to participate", stated the official.
Subsequently, the Băsescu family will have to submit the documents to perfect their Moldovan passports. If they do that through the Embassy from Bucharest, then Băsescu family risks to not receive the documents until the day it will be held the second round of elections.
Instead, they have the opportunity to come to Chisinau, where for a tax of 2550 MDL, they can get it in 3 hours.
The former Romanian President, Traian Băsescu said last night at B1 that he did not vote in the first round of presidential elections in Moldova. Băsescu explained this by the fact that Igor Dodon attacked at the Constitutional Court the decision through which, Nicolae Timofti granted him the Moldovan citizenship. "Now it has been judged and rejected, so in the second round, I will vote for Maia Sandu", he concluded.
We remind you that Traian Băsescu and his wife Maria were granted the Moldovan citizenship by the decree of the President of Moldova, Nicolae Timofti, signed in early June.
