Although there are a number of institutions empowered with the authority of identification, tracking, recovery and management of assets acquired from criminal activities, their work is disparate, there is no coordination and communication between them. In this regard a group of MPs proposed to create an Agency for recovery of illegally acquired assets (ARBI).

According to the project's authors, the Agency will provide financial investigations, which would substantially reduce the effort and efficiency of the entire chain of competent institutions to combat financial criminality. The institution will be subordinated to the National Anti-Corruption Center (CNA), but will have an autonomous status.

The project was discussed today by Members of Parliament's Legal Committee. Liberal Democrat Tudor Deliu was dissatisfied with certain provisions of the draft. According to him, even if the agency will be an independent one, it is too much subordinated to CNA.

"ARBI deputies will be appointed by the head of the CNA after the proposal of the Agency head. If you are organizing a contest to fill these positions, why not to write that function will be given to the winner?," the MP expressed his bewilderment.

The project was approved by a majority vote. PSRM and PLDM representatives abstained from voting.
