Anatol Salaru: One like Ghimpu cannot erase all that I did for my country
Defense Minister, Anatol Salaru claims that the real reason of the Political Bureau of the Liberal Party withdrew yesterday his political support would be that the politician asked a pertinent analysis of the outcome of the presidential elections and why the Liberal Party has not reached even 2%. Salaru added that, most likely, Mihai Ghimpu is affected by his successes and is afraid he will lose the position of party chairman.
"Political Bureau of the Liberal Party at the request of Mihai Ghimpu, decided to withdraw my political support using pseudo-arguments (and invented ones). Acctually, the reason for the withdrawal of political support is the fact that I asked a pertinent analysis of the election results and why the Liberal Party has not reached even 2%. I also requested the convocation of the Congress to be questioned the party situation. Objective, clear and transparent. It was normal that Mihai Ghimpu, after such a result that sent us half the margin of error in surveys, to submit his president mandate and accept the convocation of the Congress and a new leadership election," he wrote in a Facebook post.
Salaru claims that the Liberal Party was transformed into a "LLC administered by the wish of Mr. President".
"The Liberal Party needs reconstruction, the Liberal Party needs new leaders, if not, we might get to the dustbin of history. As Minister of Defence, I did my best to bring Moldova closer to NATO and development partners and I believe that the results were seen:
- for the first time in history, Moldova was part of the final declaration of a summit of NATO;
- opening NATO Liaison Office in Chisinau;
- initiating the creation of a green corridor for the withdrawal of Russian troops from Transnistria;
- National Army reform and initiating reformation;
- National Army cooperation with NATO armies to fulfill missions.
These are some of the things I have done and I am determined to continue.It seems that these things bothered. Paradox. Along with Igor Dodon and Vladimir Voronin, Mihai Ghimpu is the third president who wants my dismissal from the Defence Ministry. I am not going to leave the party that I founded and for which I fought," he wrote.
Asked by ProTV, Salaru announced that 9 members of the Political Bureau - eight voted to withdraw his political support and one was against.
"They say that I would try to corrupt some deputies, that I would try to break the fraction and take them I do not know where, I want to break the party. One like Ghimpu cannot erase all that I did for my country so far. Perhaps he suffers from my successes and fears that I will take the post of party chairman. I think he was frustrated that there are some who want me and do not want him," said Defence Minister.
