Dodon will request the withdrawal of Moldovan Ambassador to Bucharest
Igor Dodon wants to request the withdrawal of the Moldovan ambassador to Bucharest. The statement was made in a Facebook post after the Moldovan ambassador to Bucharest, Mihai Gribincea declared for digi24.ro that the "dispute around Basescu's citizenship cannot shake the overall bilateral relationship between Romania and Moldova, and the decree signed by President Igor Dodon could be declared unconstitutional”.
"I'm surprised to discover that some ambassadors have became lawyers of the politicians from the country of residence and have forgotten the state they serve. It's even worse when they make political comments in relation to state authorities who sent them on the mission. This speaks either of ambassador's poor professional qualification or either about his political commitments to the detriment of his own state and its leadership. In this way can be labeled the statements of Moldovan ambassador to Bucharest, which made impertinent and incompatible comments with his status of ambassador. I will ask Government to withdraw this ambassador and replace him by someone who better understands both diplomatic skills and interests of the Republic of Moldova," Dodon said.
In turn, Michael Gribincea called by Deschide.MD reporters, said he could not comment because, firstly, he needs to document on the declarations made by Dodon.
On Monday, in the „24 minutes” TV show from Digi24.ro, Moldovan ambassador to Bucharest, Mihai Gribincea, declared that the dispute around Basescu's citizenship cannot shake the overall bilateral relationship between the two countries, but estimates, based on the statements of several experts that the decree signed by President Igor Dodon could be declared unconstitutional.
"Since 2014 Romania is the main trade partner of Moldova - 24.8% of exports go to Romania, 13% of imports come from Romania. So we have some political relations, but also very intense social ones, which I do not believe can be greatly influenced by this decree. More by token, as you mentioned, one of the MPs in the Republic Moldova notified the Constitutional Court on the decree of withdrawal of citizenship. I do not want to anticipate the outcome, but experts in the field say that the chances of this decree to be considered unconstitutional are very high," declared the Ambassador Mihai Gribincea for Digi24.ro.
