PL leader Mihai Ghimpu said that the former President of Romania Traian Basescu doesn't need the Moldovan citizenship. Liberal says that it would be better if Basescu dealt with Romania, "to make laws for the country to develop, to become more attractive for Moldovan citizens, to make the union".

In the tv show "Point on today" at TVR Moldova, the Liberal leader said that Basescu should not have received the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova since Moldova is just part of Romania and he does not need the Moldovan citizenship.

"Since I was acting president I said that to him. I do not understand why he needed this citizenship. What for he needs Moldovan citizenship. I told him a long ago that he needs no citizenship. There are some requirements, if they are not met, the law is the law," said Ghimpu.

As for the possibility of Traian Basescu to create a party in Chisinau, the PL president stated that "It would be good for him to deal with Romania, to make laws for the country to develop, to become more attractive for Moldovan citizens, to make the union. He cannot be a deputy in Chisinau as well as in Bucharest."

We recall that a week ago President Igor Dodon signed a decree to revoke the Moldovan citizenship of Traian Basescu.

Dodon made the announcement on his Facebook page, adding that on Tuesday was held the meeting of the Committee on citizenship issues and political asylum attached to the Presidency of Moldova, which examined in detail the legal conditions of the citizenship of Traian Basescu.

Former Romanian president responded by saying that Igor Dodon's decision is a political one and he would consult with his lawyers to decide what to do next.
