Andrian Candu: Solution to Transnistrian conflict must be agreed within 5+2 format
Any measure to settle the Transnistrian conflict must take into account the provisions of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, the unitary character of the state and be agreed within the 5+2 format of the talks, Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu stated in a meeting with the Special Representative of the Austrian OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Transnistrian Settlement Process Wolf Dietrich Heim, IPN reports.
According to the Parliament’s press service, Andrian Candu reiterated the readiness to grant a special status to the Transnistrian region, noting that the Transnistrian conflict settlement remains an important item on the legislature’s agenda.
The Speaker also said work on the communication platform created last year will be continued in order to implement the country reunification policy. This instrument enables to identify solutions to the problems of the people living in the area. The platform had a number of meetings that involved heads of parliamentary commissions, representatives of state institutions, experts, current and former negotiators of the Transnistrian conflict settlement process and tried to identify a solution to support the citizens in the Transnistrian region.
For his part, the Austrian official approved of the positive dynamics witnessed so far and of the activities carried out by the communication platform so as to implement the reintegration policy. “I noticed many good things that were started last year and can be continued in order to have more results in 2017 given that the approach based on concrete results will be kept, within the limits of the settlement formula supported at international level,” said Ambassador Wolf Dietrich Heim.
He announced that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria Sebastian Kurz will pay a visit to the Republic of Moldova at the beginning of this February.
