The Court of Appeal upheld today the decision of the Buiucani District Court on Vlad Filat. The former prime minister remains sentenced to 9 years in prison. However, the same court reduced the amount of money to be confiscated from Filat's fortune from 792 million MDL to 479 million MDL, admitting this way the demarche of many callers, including the ex-Prime Minister's wife, Sanda Diviricean.

After the delivery of the decision the politician told the press that the decision of the Court of Appeal is illegal.

"It is an illegal decision. We go further," he said.

Vlad Filat was arrested after a self-denunciation of Ilan Shor, saying that while Filat was prime minister, he offered them money, goods and services worth 250 million dollars in return for government favors. By the decision of Buiucani District Court on 27 June, Filat was sentenced to nine years in prison and a fine of 60 thousand MDL. Vlad Filat pleads not guilty.

Moreover, the premier will not pay for the benefit of the National Anticorruption Centre the amount of 15 561 MDL.
