A Moldovan was arrested by prosecution officers of the Customs Service for 72 hours for smuggling precious metals. In his baggage, there was found a gold ingot weighing 655 grams.
The man intended to fly to Istanbul. He faces three to ten years in jail. The gold is worth over 350,000 lei.
The man told customs officers he didn’t know he cannot go through customs with a gold lingo if he didn’t declare it. The legislation provides that a private individual can take up to five jewels and precious metals into or out of the country without declaring them, not yet ingots.
