The wife of the President of Gagauz People's Assembly (GPA), Dmitry Constantinov, Maria Constantinova, was detained at the Chisinau International Airport for bribing the voters in the GPA elections in autumn 2016. The information was confirmed for Deschide.MD by press officer of the Prosecutor General, Maria Vieru.

Asked by our reporter, the Head of Prosecutor Department for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases "SOUTH", Vasile Stoinov, said that Maria Constantinova was wanted on January 9 looking for failure to present to the prosecuting authority. She was detained this morning for 72 hours and transported to Comrat.

The wife of Comrat Speaker is to be questioned in the criminal case of voters corruption at elections of October 20 and November 13 in Gagauzia.

We remind you that earlier, the Supreme Court excluded the President of the Gagaguz People's Assembly, Dmitry Constantinov, from the electoral race for the election to the autonomy Legislative, after the election results were contested by Constantinov's opponent, Vitaly Dragoi.

After the elections in Gagauzia, Dmitry Constantinov claimed victory against his counter, gaining 1007 votes. Dragoi got only 673 votes.
