Romania could export 600 MW of electricity band in Moldova, all the way to Chisinau no later than 2018. Statements to this effect were made Tuesday, November 8, by Oana Zachia, the head of Prognosis and Evolution Electricity Consumption Perspective Office of Transelectrica.

"There is an intergovernmental agreement and an agreement between transport operators. At least in this Agreement, the year that will be achieved an export of 600 MW band is 2018 at the latest. This can be done on the line Isaccea-Vulcanesti, but the issue still to be resolved is between Vulcăneşti and Chisinau," said Zachia in the framework of the National Congress of the Association of Electricity Suppliers in Romania.

The deadline of 2018 is assumed by the two governments in the agreement signed between them, said Zachia.

"The interconnection line exists, so basically we can achieve this export right now, but it is necessary to build a line between Vulcanesti and Chisinau. Theoretically, the Moldovan partners must make a project in this regard, and we can contribute to this project, if the two governments will agree this," added the Transelectrica, quoted by infoprut.ro

The "IDIS Viitorul" expert, Victor Parlicov, commented for Deschide.MD that the terms that the two governments proposed are very ambitious and they would positively surprised if it will be respected.

"The need for these projects are vital for the Republic of Moldova. Without a diversification of energy sources, Moldova will remain a failed state project, i.e. a state whose "life is maintained artificially." It is impossible to overestimate the importance of these interconnections for the Moldovan statehood," said Victor Parlicov.

The expert pointed out that until recently the main "brake" in the development of these projects was the lack of a firm commitment to Chisinau.

"But for quite some time, apparently emerged the political will and I hope that this ambitious terms will be respected. However it would be very good for authorities to make public the roadmap with the terms and phases of this project so that everyone can monitor the progress. I for instance see no problem for this roadmap to be published," concluded the expert.
