Ukraine and Moldova will create a joint committee that will develop solutions for the protection of the ecological system of the Dniester River. At the same time, Ukraine does not intend to abandon the construction of hydropower plants on the Dniester but will inform the Republic of Moldova regarding the construction of hydropower plants and the necessary environmental standards.

The two prime ministers discussed about creating a joint committee new that will come up with solutions to protect the river ecosystem Dniester.

"By mutual consent we also will address to our partners in the European Union to help us to carry out a joint analysis of the environmental impacts of these hydropower plants on the river Dniester", said Pavel Filip.

The Moldovan prime minister reiterated during the conference that new hydropower plants will affect both the population of Moldova and the Ukraine because the Dniester is the source of drinking water for both Chisinau and for Odessa.

"The ecosystem of the Dniester River was one of the most important issues that we discussed. Ukraine is working on the modernization of hydroelectric complex will and it will correspond to the highest European standards and norms. We agreed that our company hydroenergetics and the Ministry of Environment of Ukraine to have close cooperation with Moldova to inform the Moldovan side on the Dniester ecosystem. It would be a constructive way to have a dialogue with the businessmen in Ukraine. I am sure that together we will protect the ecosystem of the river Dniester," said Vladimir Groisman.

We reiterate that Apa-Canal Chisinau has shown its concern about Ukraine's intention to build six hydropower plants on the river Dniester. According to the supplier, this will lead to considerable decrease in water level, which will make it difficult to provide drinking water to Chisinau.

Moreover, this process could affect the quality of water delivered to the inhabitants of the town, say the company representatives.

"The amount of water that reaches the downstream of Novodnevstrovsk city, Ukraine will be dispensed, so the risks could be quite large. Another aspect extremely dangerous is the fact that the water from these hydropower will be heat treated, respectively, the water temperature that reaches downstream from Novodnevstrovsk and from the new hydropower could be technical and not potable," it said in a statement provider.
